The Solomon Islands People First Party (SIPFP), a ‘Coalition Partner’ to the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) in Solomon Islands, has formally welcomed the Minister for Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration, Hon Harry Kuma, MP, as a member of the political party.
The welcome dinner happened over the weekend on Saturday 25 October 2025 at the residence of a Senior Party Member and Member of Parliament for Marovo Constituency, Hon Chachabule Rebi Amoi.
In his remarks Minister Kuma thanked the Party for welcoming him onboard.
“Let me thank the Parliamentary Branch and the Executive Committee of the Solomon Islands People First Party for accepting me into the Party as a new, vibrant and committed member.”
He also expressed being comfortable to join the Party.
“I am comfortable becoming a member of the SIPFP and my membership will add value to the aspirations of the Party’, Minister Kuma added.
“As entrusted upon me the GNUT, I will complete the tasks of developing and implementing the ‘Special Economic Zones’ (SEZ) in the country and advancing reforms in Foreign Investment, Commodities Export Marketing Authority (CEMA), Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), Immigration and Labour,’ the Minister concluded. The National Parliament recently approved the SEZ legislation.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Hon Fredrick Koloqeto, MP, mentioned that whilst the Coalition Agreement is silent on the movement of MPs from Coalition Partners of the GNUT, the allegiance of Minister Kuma to the People First Party is healthy for the Government of the day. ‘It maintains political solidarity of the coalition, hence, reinforcing stability in the country’, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Hon Chachabule Rebi Amoi, MP for Marovo Constituency, and SIPFP’s Senior Party Member, recognises that small issues exist in the GNUT. Key among them is the fact that the SIPFP with 12 Members of Parliament, now holds 11 portfolios in the ruling Government.
However, ‘the strength of this political issue can be seen as an opportunity for positive change in the country,’ said Hon Amoi. He added that the issues are making GNUT stronger each passing day.
Hon Amoi concluded by encouraging ‘all SIPFP Ministers in the GNUT Coalition to work hard and strongly in the implementation of GNUT Policies and strategies’.
In related SIPFP news, the Executive Committee is reviewing the Party’s Constitution and Manifesto to address current global issues, including climate change, economic and political stability, inequality, and threats to global health and security.
Nationally, the Party Executive believes that strengthening provincial governance and improving service delivery relate to the Party’s core mandate of ‘putting people first’.
