Solomon Islands National Provident Fund (SINPF) is supporting the fight against cancer in the country by donating five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) to the National Referral Hospital Cancer Trust Fund under Oncology Department on Wednesday 31st October 2025.
This was during a Cancer Awareness held at the NPF Office.
The Health Awareness was conducted by Dr. Andrew Soma – Head of NRH Oncology Unit.
He said the month of October is known as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month or Pinktober, however it is relevant to talk on oral cancer which among the top five most common cancers in Solomon Islands.
Speaking to SINPF Staff, oral cancer is a significant health issue in the Solomon Islands, with an increasing number of cases recorded annually at the National Referral Hospital (NRH).
He explains oral cancer can appear as a red or white patch in the mouth that does not heal, or as slow-healing sores that bleed easily.
While treatment is available, it is essential to detect oral cancer early, as the success of treatment is significantly higher in early-stage cases.
He said the establishment of the cancer unit has enable people to have more information on the types of cancer seen in the referral hospital.
The SINPF donation signifies its commitment annually in October to support the Cancer Trust Fund on the importance to fight against different types of cancer in Solomon Islands.
