The Honiara Council of Women (HCW) has successfully completed the Safeguarding in Communities Sporting Events (SCSE) and Children’s Reporting and Referrals Workshop earlier last week at the Multipurpose Hall, Central Honiara.
The Honiara Table Tennis Association (HTTA) confirmed the successful hosting of the event, stating that a total of 84 participants, including chair ladies, executive members, and general members, completed the basic safeguarding workshop.
The training focused on how to protect children and communities during sporting events and the proper procedures for reporting and making referrals.
“A total of 84 chair ladies, executive members, and members have completed a basic safeguarding workshop on how to deal with children and communities during sporting events, including reporting and referrals,” HTTA said.
The workshop was facilitated by Solomon Islands’ Third Regional Safeguarding Community of Practitioners and service providers from SEIF PLES and the Family Support Center.
Lead facilitators included Hilda Mungale of the Family Support Center, Brightlyn Beauty, Center Manager of SEIF PLES, and Team Up Sports partners Reggie Hou and Kevin Olea from Smash Down Barriers.
The HCW chair ladies are partners of Team Up Sports, which continues to deliver community programs in Honiara.
This initiative followed an MOU signed between HTTA and HCW last week to support the rollout of HTTA programs to local communities.
HTTA also expressed appreciation to the Honiara City Council (HCC) for its continued support, which has been critical in reaching communities across Honiara.
Upon completing the workshop, all participants were awarded certificates of participation.
