A NUMBER of executive members in the Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) have expressed shock following report of an alleged plan to move a Motion of No Confidence against Premier Elijah Asilaua and his government.
Reports have surfaced claiming that members of the non-executive side are lobbying to secure the support of at least seven Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) from the executive site to bring forward the motion.
However, several government MPAs told the Solomon Star that the news came as a complete surprise to them.
“We only became aware of this supposed plan when it was reported in the media,” one executive member said.
Provincial Fisheries Minister Jerry Hite also denied claims published by the Island Sun newspaper that he had been contacted for comment regarding the proposed motion.
“At no time was I contacted by any media outlet about this matter,” Hite clarified.
“In fact, I was not even aware of any planned motion until one of my colleagues mentioned it to me last night.”
Hite added that such reports only serve to create unnecessary speculation and confusion within the provincial assembly.
Meanwhile, the Solomon Star understands that the Malaita Provincial Government executive meeting is currently at the provincial chambers stated yesterday.
For now, the executive remains firm that there is no official move to challenge Premier Asilaua’s leadership.
