Ghupo Strength kicked off their SIFF Super Beach Soccer Challenge campaign with a thrilling victory over Moi in a Group B encounter on Tuesday at the SIFF Headquarters Beach Soccer Pitch.
After falling two goals behind in the opening two periods, Ghupo mounted a strong comeback in the final third, scoring twice to level the match and force overtime.
The game was eventually decided on penalties, where Ghupo scored twice to seal a historic win.
Speaking after the match, Ghupo coach Greezer Pongi said it was a proud moment for his team, who are new to the beach soccer format.
“I thank my boys for the victory today. It was a very tough game, and we are new to this code. We picked up late in the game but managed to come out with this important win,” he said.
Pongi added that his players had only two days to train and familiarize themselves with the rules before the competition began.
“This win really means a lot to us and gives the boys confidence going forward. What’s important now is recovery before our next match on Thursday,” he added.
In the day’s other Group B match, Islands Brother bounced back strongly to thrash Capital Bullets 16-1.
