Honiara, – To promote environmental stewardship among young Solomon Islanders, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) collaborated with the Pristine Seas team to host the Expedition Education Program on Monday, 3 November 2025, at the MEHRD Conference room.
Pristine Seas, led by Enric Sala and a team of scientists, policy experts, and filmmakers, is a National Geographic Society initiative dedicated to advancing global ocean conservation.
Through an interactive presentation and multimedia storytelling, the two-hour session allowed students to engage with experts and explore stories showcasing efforts to protect marine life.
Students and educators from six schools across Honiara participated in the recent event, which aimed at strengthening environmental education and promotion of ocean conservation. The participating schools included Woodford International School, St. John’s Community High School, Honiara Senior High School, Bishop Epalle Catholic School, King George VI School, and St. Nicholas College.
The event underscored the importance of integrating environmental education into daily learning experiences and empowering young people to become advocates for sustainable ocean management.
Director of the MEHRD Teaching and Learning Division, Mr. Charles Kafa, acknowledged the Pristine Seas team for their commitment and extended his appreciation to the participating schools for their engagement and cooperation.
“This engagement is more than just a workshop. I believe the session has instilled confidence and a sense of responsibility in the minds and hearts of our future leaders,” Mr. Kafa said.
The Pristine Seas Expedition Education Program forms part of a broader collaboration between the MEHRD and conservation partners. The initiative seeks to connect science, culture, and education to benefit Solomon Islands communities and protect marine ecosystems for future generations.
