Honiara, — Today – Monday 10 November 2025, the world marks International Accountants Day, a global observance that honours the vital role accountants play in driving transparency, trust, and economic progress.
For the Solomon Islands, this day is more than a celebration—it is a reminder of how the accounting profession underpins national development and sustainability.
The Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants (ISIA), established under the Accountants Act 2010, is the country’s professional body mandated to regulate and advance the accounting profession. Over the years, ISIA has evolved into a strategic partner in shaping the nation’s financial and economic future. Its mission goes beyond compliance; it is about building resilience, fostering ethical practices, and ensuring that Solomon Islands accountants are equipped to meet global standards.
Driving Sustainability Through Professional Excellence
ISIA’s strategic priorities reflect its commitment to sustainability—not only for the Institute itself but for the nation. These priorities include:
- Strengthening Governance and Independence: ISIA is implementing robust legal and management structures to ensure financial independence and operational sustainability.
- Capacity Building and Education: Through internationally accredited programs and partnerships, ISIA is developing a pool of highly skilled professionals capable of delivering quality financial services across public and private sectors.
- Ethical Standards and Global Alignment: ISIA is raising professional ethics and advocating for international standards in local business and government practices, reinforcing trust and accountability.
Supporting Economic Growth and Social Wellbeing
The accounting profession is central to nation-building. Accountants provide critical insights for sound policymaking, efficient resource allocation, and transparent governance. ISIA’s initiatives—such as its annual congress themed “Shaping the Solomon Islands Future Economic and Financial Landscape”—bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and international experts to address challenges like climate change, technological disruption, and inclusive growth.
ISIA also plays a key role in supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which are the backbone of the local economy. By equipping accountants with the skills to guide MSMEs toward sustainable practices, ISIA helps create jobs, strengthen communities, and promote economic resilience.
Voices from ISIA Leadership
Johnson Lobo, President of the ISIA Council said, “Accountants are more than number crunchers—they are guardians of trust and drivers of sustainable development. ISIA is committed to ensuring that our profession contributes meaningfully to the Solomon Islands’ economic resilience and social progress,” said Johnson Lobo, President of the ISIA Council.
ISIA CEO, Pamela Naesol also added, “our vision is to align Solomon Islands accounting standards with global best practices while addressing local challenges. Sustainability is not just an environmental concept—it’s about creating systems that endure and serve our people for generations now and in the future.”
Looking Ahead
As global forces reshape economies, ISIA is positioning the Solomon Islands accounting profession as a forward-looking, innovative, and internationally connected sector. Its long-term goal of achieving IFAC accreditation by 2027 underscores its commitment to excellence and sustainability.
On this International Accountants Day, ISIA calls on all stakeholders—government, businesses, and communities—to recognize the indispensable role of accountants in building a sustainable future for Solomon Islands. Together, through ethical practices and strategic collaboration, we can ensure that our nation thrives economically, socially, and environmentally.
