Another football program called; “This Is How We Play Football” program was officially introduced in Malaita Province over the weekend under the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF).
The program, launched at Aligegeo Football Stadium, brought together more than 200 girls aged 13 to under 18, giving them the opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport in a supportive environment.
According to reports, the initiative aims to empower girls through football and to promote the participation of women and girls in all aspects of the sport.
In Solomon Islands, the initiative is supported by the Australian Government and implemented through the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) in partnership with the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF).
The program seeks to break down barriers that prevent women and girls from playing football and to encourage lifelong engagement in sports.
A parent Danny Belo, who brought his three daughters to the event, expressed strong support for the initiative.
“My three girls had the opportunity to take part and enjoy the activities. It was a fun and positive experience for them,” Belo said.
He added that the event was coordinated by SIFF’s Women’s Development Officer and the national coordinator of the “This Is How We Play Football” program.
It is understood that the program has already been introduced in other provinces across the country.
