A major new tourism initiative is being proposed for the Western Province, with plans now underway for an inaugural Island Vibes Festival, a signature annual event expected to energise the local economy and promote the province’s rich cultural identity.
The announcement was delivered by Island Vibes Committee Chairman Manoj Dhari during the committee’s first official fundraising dinner held at the P109 Yacht Club over the weekend where he appealed for strong backing from the community and business sector to help bring the festival to life.
The well-attended event drew dignitaries, leaders and supporters, including Finance Minister Hon. Renni Ghemiyu, Hon. Jenly Isaac, Hon. Fredrick Akapuru, PS Patrick Toiraena, local Tourism operators and other business houses.
Speaking to the gathering on Saturday night, Chairman Dhari highlighted the festival’s potential to become a transformative annual celebration for the province.
“Tonight marks the beginning of a new journey for us,” he said.
“We are working towards launching an annual event called the Island Vibes Festival in May 2026 right here in Gizo.
“This will not be a one-off celebration, but a long-term program we hope will grow year after year into a signature event for our people, our culture, and our economy.”
Dhari outlined what he described as a “simple but powerful” vision: to build a vibrant tourism event that fosters unity, strengthens the local economy, and uplifts the diverse cultural heritage that defines the Western Province.
“From our cultures and traditions to our music, art, food, and untouched natural beauty, this event will be a platform to showcase who we are — not only to our own communities but to the whole of Solomon Islands and international visitors,” he said.
The Chairman also stressed that the support shown at the fundraising dinner represented more than financial backing.
“Tonight’s dinner is our first step. Your sponsorship will directly support planning, logistics, cultural showcases, youth participation and community involvement.
“You’re not just sponsors—you’re founding partners helping to build something that can uplift our province for many years to come,” he added.
Dhari expressed heartfelt thanks to his committee members for their commitment and hard work.
“When we invest in events like this, we invest in our people, our communities, and our economy.
“To our committee members: Thank you for your countless hours, robust debate, and dedication. Your commitment is the engine driving this effort,” he added.
The Island Vibes Festival is scheduled to debut in May 2026.
