The Malaita Provincial Government, together with the people of Malaita, including the Member of the Provincial Assembly and the people of Ward 10, strongly condemns the alleged physical assault of a Chinese employee of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) at the Kolofe campsite in North Malaita on 9 December 2025.
This disturbing incident is unacceptable and contradicts the values of respect, hospitality, and cooperation that the people of Malaita uphold, a statement issued by the Provincial Government on Thursday said.
The Premier, on behalf of the Provincial Executive and all Malaitans, expresses deep concern and disappointment over the actions of the individuals involved.
“We remind the public that this Chinese worker—our friend and development partner—has merely become a victim of the evil-minded actions of the criminals.
“These culprits have blatantly ignored the common understanding between host communities and project workers.
“The victim left his home and family to serve alongside the CCECC team, dedicating his skills, time, and experience to support the development aspirations of our communities and Province,” the statement said.
Through the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP 2) under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, this worker has been contributing to the construction of quality roads, bridges, and infrastructure intended to improve the social and economic well-being of our people.
The Kolofe bridges, once completed, will directly benefit the very families and communities of these culprits.
Their actions are therefore not only criminal but deeply disrespectful to the progress and future development of Malaita Province, the statement added.
The Malaita Provincial Government said it does not tolerate such behaviour.
“We fully support law enforcement in ensuring that the responsible individuals face the full force of the law. Justice must be served for this brutal alleged assault, and the culprits must bear the consequences of their actions.”
The Premier appeals to nearby communities to come forward with information related to the incident.
“We all share a responsibility to protect our development partners, especially those who have come to help us address infrastructure challenges and lift our communities out of poverty,” the statement said.
