The Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) in partnership with the Auki-based Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Malaita Law Enforcement Unit are currently implementing Operation Festive Shield.
This is to maintain peace, safety, and order throughout Malaita during the festive season, a statement issued by the MPG said.
The operation will be extended into the northern and other regions in response to increased public movement during the 2025 Festive Season.
“This period traditionally brings joy and family gatherings but also presents heightened risks of public nuisance, theft, disorder, and other criminal activities.
“Operation Festive Shield is a proactive, community-focused policing strategy aimed at maintaining peace, safety, and order throughout Malaita,” the statement said.
Operation Goals
To provide a safe and secure environment during the 2025 Festive Season through:
- Enhanced police visibility
- Targeted patrol and monitoring operations
- Community engagement
- Effective response mechanisms
Key Objectives
- Increase visible policing in commercial and residential areas.
- Deter criminal activities, including theft, disorderly behaviour, and public nuisance.
- Strengthen public trust and cooperation through community engagement.
- Enhance coordination between operational units and support agencies.
- Ensure rapid police response to incidents and emergencies.
- Provide logistical support for sustained patrols and monitoring.

“A safe festive season is a shared responsibility. Police will be visible, but we urge every citizen to remain vigilant, look out for neighbours, and report concerns to ensure a peaceful celebration for all.”
