The successful conclusion of Gizo–Kolombangara Constituency (GKC) Day 2025 in Ringi, Kolombangara in Western Province has been hailed as a historic milestone in promoting unity, inclusive development and people-centred leadership across the constituency.
Speaking during the closing programme, Member of Parliament for Gizo–Kolombangara Constituency on Sunday Hon. Jimson Tanaganda said the one-week celebration clearly demonstrated what can be achieved when communities work together under a shared vision.
Held under the theme “One Constituency, One Future: Showcasing Culture, Talents and Development in Unity,” Hon. Tanaganda said GKC Day 2025 was not just a celebration but a practical platform for service delivery, youth empowerment, economic participation, cultural promotion and long-term community transformation.
The programme officially commenced on Monday, 22 December 2025, with the launch of GKC Day and the historic opening of the GKC Constituency Office at Ringi Station. Hon. Tanaganda described the establishment of a permanent constituency office in a rural station as a deliberate move to bring governance closer to the people.
He said the office will improve access to information on constituency development priorities, promote transparency in the use of Constituency Development Funds (CDF), and guide individuals and communities on accessing development support.

On Tuesday, 23 December, the opening of the GKC Office in Gizo marked the rollout of the first phase of flagship constituency development projects aimed at supporting livelihoods, food security and community resilience.
These included the distribution of 15 fishing boats with outboard motors, 50 chainsaws, more than 100 wheelbarrows, bush knives and spades, 20,000 poly bags for farmers, roofing irons for 100 rural homes, and 200 rural solar lights prioritising the elderly and vulnerable.
Hon. Tanaganda said these initiatives reflect GKC’s commitment to empowering rural households and addressing real community needs through practical solutions.
This followed by Youth, culture and creative talent took centre stage on Wednesday, 24 December, as local artists from the constituency showcased their music and performances.
Artists including Ismuki, Boxman, Jungle Juice and Easy Rush highlighted the growing creative industry in Gizo and Kolombangara and its potential contribution to tourism and economic development.
From 22 to 26 December, the GKC Office also hosted a Mini Trade Show, bringing together private sector partners such as Telekom and Adventist Christian Books Evangelism.
The initiative strengthened partnerships between communities and service providers, promoted financial literacy and digital access, and supported small-scale enterprise development.

GKC Day 2025 concluded on Monday, 29 December, with the grand soccer final between Gizo Town and Central Kolombangara, drawing large crowds and uniting communities through sportsmanship and friendly competition.
Hon. Tanaganda said the GKC Games form part of a long-term sports development framework aimed at developing rural sports facilities, encouraging youth participation in sports, promoting discipline and leadership, and improving physical and mental health.
In his closing remarks, the MP acknowledged the dedication of GKC officers Mr Alphonse Wale (CDO), Mr Luxton Tamisia (CAO) and Ms Prasana Lezutuni (CPO), as well as CDC members, the Western Football Association, the Local Organising Committee, game officials, volunteers and physio Mr Ialangono Darcy.
He also thanked churches, chiefs, women, youths, private sector partners and host communities for their support and cooperation throughout the week.
Hon. Tanaganda said the success of GKC Day 2025 reaffirmed that the future of Gizo and Kolombangara lies in its people, particularly the youth, and pledged continued support for their talents, skills and aspirations.
