The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) has reminded all health workers to uphold the highest standards of responsibility and respect.
That’s when using health facilities and government-owned properties.
This followed a recent incident involving a nurse in a road accident while driving the Kirakira Hospital ambulance without proper authorization.
The MHMS understands the accident occurred over the weekend involving a nurse who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when driving the ambulance.
MHMS is working closely with authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Health facilities and assets, including ambulances, are critical resources meant for patient care and emergency response. Unauthorized use not only compromises service delivery but also poses serious safety risks,” said MHMS supervising Permanent Secretary Mr. Layten Jacob.
The Ministry emphasizes that all health workers must adhere to established protocols for the use of hospital vehicles and equipment. T
hese measures are in place to ensure patient safety, protect public resources, and maintain trust in the health system.
MHMS is reviewing internal procedures and will take appropriate steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Health workers are encouraged to report any misuse of facilities or assets and to seek proper authorization before using government property.
