Makira Ulawa Provincial (MUP) Government has extended its warm greetings to the Government and people of Solomon Islands.
The statement was issued on 1st January 2026 as the country enters 2026.
In a statement Premier Stanley Siapu said, “Warm New Year greetings from the Provincial Government and people of Makira Ulawa Province to you all.”
He said, as the nation looks forward to 2026, this is an important moment to reflect on the achievements the has made and the challenges faced in recent years, so that the country may move forward with clarity, confidence, and renewed purpose.
He said, since attaining its official status as a Province in 1983, Makira Ulawa has continued to demonstrate maturity and leadership, even in the face of difficulties.
“Above all, it is the resilience, commitment, and hard-working nature of our people that remain our greatest strength.”
He said, for far too long development had been denied due to many parts of the country due to what he described as business as usual.
“For too long, development in our Province—and across many parts of our country—has been constrained by what we now openly reject as Business As Usual.
“While good speeches, plans, and consultations have been undertaken, these have not always resulted in measurable and meaningful improvements in the daily lives of our people.”
Under his leadership, the province is also embarking on new path to deliver services, do business and encourage investment.
“The PACRA Government which I lead has therefore chosen a different path—the path of TOA: Try Other Alternatives.
“This approach calls for innovation over inertia, timely delivery over delay, accountability over excuses, and results over rhetoric. It reflects our determination to ensure that development is not only planned, but delivered.”
He also highlighted the need to learn from past challenges and explore new opportunities.
“As we move into the New Year, it is vital that we learn from past challenges, seize emerging opportunities, and transform obstacles into positive prospects that advance the wellbeing of our people and communities.”
The Makira Ulawa Provincial Government recognises and deeply values the contribution of every individual, institution, and partner who has supported the province, he said.
“It is our sincere hope that this same spirit of cooperation, unity, and partnership will continue to guide our shared development aspirations in the year ahead. We invite you to walk this path with us.”
