The West Kwara’ae Constituency in Malaita Province has began rolling out of its Constituency Development Programme-funded livelihood projects, valued at $5 million.
The projects included; housing schemes, fisheries, agriculture, and other small-scale individual livelihood initiatives.
The first batch of housing materials have already arrived in Auki and is currently being stored pending distribution to communities across the constituency.
The materials included; steel rods, roofing iron, and cement.
Assistant West Kwara’ae Constituency Development Officer, Fred Aremao, told the Solomon Star that preparations are underway to distribute the materials throughout the constituency.
“Project materials for the housing programme have already arrived and are now stored in Auki awaiting distribution,” Mr Aremao said.
Mr Aremao said more than 500 housing projects are expected to be delivered this year, 2026.
To support the housing programme, the constituency has also purchased two Lucas mills and a chainsaw to assist with timber processing.

Apart from housing, he said the constituency will also roll out other development projects, including the provision of water tanks and canoes to support livelihoods within the constituency.
“These items have already been paid for and are awaiting transportation to the constituency later this year,” Mr Aremao said.
He added that before Christmas, the constituency distributed small projects to canteen operators and provided assistance to elderly people in the constituency.
He reaffirmed the constituency’s commitment to delivering development to its people and urged communities to work closely with the constituency office to ensure that projects reach their intended beneficiaries.
