The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Western Province recorded only minor disorderly incidents during the 2026 New Year countdown, following intensified security operations throughout the festive season.
The enhanced sea and land patrols were conducted to ensure public safety during Christmas and New Year celebrations across the province.
Speaking to Solomon Star on Friday, Western Province Operations Manager Justina Magu said police officers have been actively deployed to communities since the launch of the Christmas and New Year festive season operations.
“Police officers throughout Western Province remained vigilant to curb any crime that might arise during this festive season,” Ms. Magu said.
She explained that officers were stationed in both urban and rural communities, with some staying overnight in villages to ensure residents felt safe and free to enjoy their festive programs.
“These deployments are part of our commitment to maintaining law and order and providing reassurance to the public,” she added.
Ms. Magu confirmed that only cases of drunken disorderly behaviour were reported during the New Year countdown.
She further noted that security operations were also strengthened along the Western Province–Solomon Islands border, with increased patrols and monitoring.
In addition to enforcement duties, police officers conducted community engagement activities to promote cooperation and public awareness during the festive period.
Ms. Magu also acknowledged the support of the Community Policing Committees (CPCs) established across the province, thanking them for their assistance during the Christmas and New Year period.
“I also want to thank all Members of Parliament in Western Province for organising sporting activities in their constituencies, which
engaged young people during the festive season,” she said.
She added that such initiatives help reduce criminal activities and prevent young people from getting into trouble.
