Minister for Home Affairs and Member of Parliament (MP) for Shortland Islands says 2025 had been a “defining year” for governance reforms, as the Ministry of Home Affairs tightened financial discipline and strengthened accountability across public institutions.
Speaking during the Motion of Sine‑Die, MP Isikeli Vave said the government’s focus on internal systems, compliance and performance management was laying “foundations for long‑term stability and trust.”
He highlighted reforms in recruitment, staff management and reporting frameworks, describing them as essential to modern governance.
“These reforms are not administrative exercise,” he said. “They are foundations for long‑term stability and trust in public institutions.”
The minister pointed to legislative achievements in 2025, including the passage of the national budget, public service reform and building standards legislation, which he said represented “decisive steps towards safer infrastructure and a more accountable public sector.”
Vave commended Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele’s leadership and the collective resolve of parliament in delivering reforms under the Government of National Unity and Transformation.
He said the Ministry of Home Affairs would consolidate reforms and strengthen service delivery in 2026, with priorities including infrastructure development, support to local government and oversight of national institutes.
“Good governance is non‑negotiable for this government,” Vave told the lawmakers. “Our responsibility is to ensure that institutions remain strong and that service delivery reaches both urban and rural communities.”
The minister also noted that reforms were designed to extend development outcomes to communities nationwide, stressing that accountability and transparency were central to building public trust.
He concluded by reaffirming his ministry’s commitment to strategic planning and inclusive development, saying the government’s stewardship would ensure that; “our future remains full of promise.”
