A woman accused in relation to a $2 million warehouse break-in in Kukum, East Honiara, had her plea deferred day after her lawyer sought more time to make a proposal to the prosecution.
Donsia Deresi, 41, who faces one count of housebreaking and committing a felony, appeared before the Honiara Magistrates’ Court.
Her lawyer, Donation Houa of the Public Solicitor’s Office, told the court that during the previous hearing he had indicated his intention to make a proposal to the prosecution.
However, he explained that he was unable to do so as his father became ill, requiring him to travel to his home province.
Mr Houa therefore requested a further one-week adjournment to prepare and submit the proposal to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Public Prosecutor Jeremy Oiofa said the prosecution had no objection to the request.
Principal Magistrate Felix Hollison adjourned the matter to January 23 for plea and extended Deresi’s bail.
Deresi is accused in connection with a warehouse break-in that allegedly occurred in the early hours of August 29, 2025, at the Red Star Shop warehouse in Kukum.
Police estimate the total loss at $2 million, including 22 bags of beche-de-mer and $100,000 in cash.
Police further allege that Deresi and others used three vehicles to access the warehouse and later hid the stolen goods in Tenaru, intending to retrieve them at a later time.
Deresi was arrested on September 29, 2025, and reportedly remained silent during her police interview.
Meanwhile, her son, Rickson Suiti Abana, remains in custody over his alleged involvement in the warehouse break-in and a separate intimidation charge.
