Community members of Burns Creek in East Honiara have commenced the effort to rehabilitate their road as of today, Monday 2nd February.
This came after the Church and Community leaders have decided to do something on their own after months of unanswered requests from authorities over the poor condition of their main access road.
On Sunday 1st February Church leaders of Burns Creek community stood together with their offerings to sustain the work .
Despite the challenges, they are united to make sure they get their roads maintained.
On Sunday $4000 was collected to start the work.
With a positive response from stakeholders. Others pledge to give theirs on Monday while work makes progress.
“This is evidence of leaders wanting to serve their community. little is much when God is in it.
“With the united leadership, the East Honiara Constituency decides to support the Initiative,” a statement from the Community Leaders said.
The community still welcomes support.

This morning [Monday], men, women, youths and children came out to clear off and level gravel that were placed on the road.
“This is an evidence of Community Unity and wanting to see change.
“Thanks to the Churches, Dr Shane, and SI cement for the support today in our entrance.
“A huge thank you for community engagement. Evidence of the power of Holy Spirit.
“Church and community Project initiative will still continue in the community,” the statement from the community said.
The road from the Kastom Gaden bus stop leading into the community had been in a bad state for years.

Last year, the Burns Creek Community Leadership formally submitted request letters highlighting the urgent need for maintenance of the deteriorating road. However, no positive response was received.
The community residents rely on the road for work, school, church, and access to essential services.
Recognising the urgency, church and community leaders convened a meeting on Sunday 25 January 2026 at Mercy School Hall, where a united decision was made to act.
Leaders representing 10 churches—the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA), St Vincent, St James, Church of Christ (COC), Destiny Church, Assemblies of God (AOG) Shalom, Salvation Army, Rhema Church, AOG, and Movement Church—met alongside community leaders to discuss a way forward.
The meeting resolved that the community could not afford to wait any longer.
Instead, the churches, in partnership with community stakeholders, are being tasked to engage in community working bee to carry out basic road maintenance.
The activity officially commenced this morning – Monday, 2 February 2026, with community members contributing their manpower and stand together in unity.
