Noro sea transportation services were severely affected over the past days following strong wind warnings and prolonged bad weather conditions that disrupted marine travel across the country.
For several weeks, rough seas and strong winds forced operators to reduce trips, leaving many passengers stranded and limiting travel between Gizo, Kolombangara and Noro in Western Provnce.
However, with improved weather conditions now experienced this week, Noro boat transportation services have resumed normal daily operations, transporting passengers along the Gizo–Kolombangara–Noro route.
Speaking to Solomon Star in Gizo, Good Road Transportation skipper from Noro, Berry Tee, said the bad weather last month greatly impacted their operations, with very few passengers able to travel safely to their destinations.
“The strong winds and rough seas really affected our services. At times, we could only carry a small number of passengers, and some trips had to be cancelled for safety reasons,” he said.
Berry explained that with calmer seas and favourable weather now prevailing, operators are confident to resume their daily schedules.
“Although there are still light winds along some parts of the waters, the sea condition is generally fine,” he said.
He added that this week is expected to be particularly busy as students, workers and other travellers move between islands following the weather improvement.
“This week will be a busy one for us, especially transporting students returning to school and other travellers heading to their respective destinations,” Berry added.
Marine operators are continuing to monitor weather updates closely and are advising passengers to remain alert and cooperate with safety measures during travel.
