The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka last week attended the 13th World Government Summit held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The event was held, from 3–5 February 2026.
The World Government Summit is an annual global platform that brings together Heads of State, Heads of Government, Ministers, thought leaders, and representatives from the private sector to discuss and collaborate on solutions to pressing global challenges.
These include governance, sustainable development, climate change, the use of artificial intelligence, geopolitics, trade, and investment.
The Summit programme comprises plenary sessions, forums, roundtable discussions, and sideline meetings.
This year’s Summit was convened under the theme “Shaping Future Governments,” focusing on how governments can adapt, innovate, and respond effectively to future challenges in an increasingly complex global environment.
On the margins of the Summit, Foreign Minister Agovaka took the opportunity to meet with other world leaders to discuss issues of mutual interest and global concern.
As a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) in the Pacific, engagement and dialogue at such international forums are strategically important for Solomon Islands in advancing national interests and strengthening global partnerships.

The Foreign Minister also joined leaders from Pacific and Caribbean countries in a meeting with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
During the meeting, Minister Agovaka acknowledged the support provided by the UAE to Solomon Islands, reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, and pledged to further strengthen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The next World Government Summit is scheduled to be held from 1–3 February 2027.
Minister Agovaka was accompanied by the Minister for National Planning and Development Coordination, Honourable Trevor Manemahaga (MP); the Member of Parliament for South Guadalcanal Constituency, Honourable Rollen Seleso (MP); His Excellency Cornelius Walegerea, Solomon Islands Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates; and Ms Madolyn Yalu, Senior Desk Officer for the Asia and Africa Branch of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
