The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force’s (RSIPF) and AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) has acknowledged and welcomed the continued support of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) following the delivery of mandatory annual first aid certification training to RSIPF Close Personal Protection (CPP) members.
Trainers from AFP Canberra were recently in Solomon Islands to facilitate first aid training for RSIPF CPP officers as part of their annual skills maintenance and certification requirements. The training was facilitated by AFP trainer Emma Ireland, assisted by Laura Howe, and forms a compulsory component of CPP operations to ensure members remain qualified, compliant, and operationally ready.
The program included refresher training on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and general casualty care, while also introducing Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) principles. These principles are designed to support CPP members responding to traumatic incidents in high-risk and dynamic environments.
A key focus of the training was the management of major bleeding resulting from stab wounds, gunshot wounds, and blunt force trauma injuries that CPP officers may encounter while carrying out protective duties. The practical, hands-on nature of the training ensured participants could confidently apply these lifesaving skills in real-world situations involving high office holders and visiting heads of state
PC Josphine Mato’o, a participant of the training, said the practical nature of the sessions highlighted the importance of preparedness and teamwork.
“The training was very practical and realistic. Running through scenarios showed how important it is to stay calm and work as a team when responding to serious injuries. I’m grateful to RAPPP and AFP for supporting this training and helping us maintain our skills,” she said.
RAPPP recognises that maintaining high professional standards requires regular, certified training that is relevant to real operational risk. The Australian Federal Police’s continued support in delivering annual first aid certification ensures RSIPF CPP members remain competent, compliant, and prepared to respond effectively to life-threatening incidents.
This collaboration directly strengthens officer safety and operational readiness, while aligning RSIPF protective services with recognised regional and international policing standards. Through RAPPP, the RSIPF remains committed to partnerships that deliver practical capability, measurable skills development, and improved outcomes for both officers on duty and the communities they are tasked to protect.
