President of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Masato Kanda is currently in Honiara on a brief visit.
President Kanda and his delegation arrived in Solomon Islands on Sunday.
He is in Honiara to officially open ADB’s first Solomon Islands Resident Mission.
The Mission will be officially opened on Tuesday morning.
Anthony Gill has been announced as the new Country Director of this new Resident Mission.
On Monday the President and his delegation visited a number of projects supported by ADB in Solomon Islands.
These included; the Tina Hydro-Power project, the University of the South Pacific (USP) King George Sixth Campus, the main highway road project and others.
The president is expected to meet Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele and Finance Minister Rexon Annex Ramofafia during his visit.
President Kanda assumed office on February 24, 2025.
As the 11th President, he chairs the Board of Directors and leads the institution in promoting social and economic development in Asia and the Pacific, with his term set to run until November 23, 2026.
From Honiara the delegation will leave Honiara Tuesday evening and travel on to Vanuatu and then on to Fiji as part of his Pacific tour.
