Skyriders Men’s Floorball Club (FBC) are close to claiming their first-ever National Floorball League title after securing a place in the final four playoffs.
A dominant 12–2 victory over SINU Panthers in a top-of-the-table clash over the weekend confirmed Skyriders’ playoff spot, despite two regular-season rounds still remaining.
“Yes, we are so happy to have secured a place in the playoffs.
However, it is not over yet. We still have two remaining matches in the regular rounds, and we will not take them lightly like we have done throughout the season,” Skyriders captain Nyrick Zuna told Star Sports.
Following Sunday’s victory, Skyriders’ winning streak has now stretched to eight games. Zuna and his side remain unbeaten in the competition, yet to record a loss or draw.
“We are taking one game at a time, and there are still many things to work on and improve before the playoffs.
“We know the playoffs will be quite different from the regular league matches, but overall, I am very proud of the boys,” Zuna said.
The skipper added that the team’s main objective this season is to win their first league title.
“Our aim is to make history for this club by winning its first title. The boys are also aiming for individual awards, which would be a bonus,” he said.
In Sunday’s other men’s fixture, two teams battling for playoff spots went head-to-head, with SINU Knights climbing to third place after a convincing 6–1 win over fifth-placed USP Bullets.
The victory sees the Knights sitting third in the standings with 14 points from eight matches.
In the women’s division, USP Bullets have booked their place in the grand final after thrashing SINU Girls 18–1.
They will now await their opponents, who will be decided in the second semifinal between Unix and Skyriders Women, to be played at a later date.
Round 9 of the men’s division continues this Sunday, March 1, with SINU Knights taking on Unix at 3:30pm, followed by USP Bullets facing SINU Panthers.
The round will conclude with Skyriders up against Moonwalkers at 4:30pm. All matches will be played at Friendship Hall.
