The National Government, through the Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination (MNPDC), successfully completed a nationwide Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) exercise to verify the status of government-supported projects and programs.
Since December 2025, the MNPDC dispatched teams to each province, including Honiara, to conduct the M&E exercise as part of its 2025 Annual Work Plan.
The completion of Renbel and Temotu Province M&E by the end of January 2026 marked the conclusion of the field-data collection phase.
This is the first M&E exercise following the 2023 Monitoring and Evaluation Systems Analysis (MESA) report which highlighted the need for evidence-based data to guide national decision-making and ensure public resources are used effectively, in line with the country’s National Development Strategy (NDS) 2016-2035 and Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) 2024-2025.

Data collected from these M&E trips will provide the government with a clear picture of the performance of its priority projects and programs. These M&E site visits captured firsthand information from implementors and beneficiaries of government funded and co-funded projects and programs and ensure initiatives follow allocated budgets and timeframes. These are important information to assist the government make informed and evidence-based decisions.
Unlike standard desk-based reporting, MNPDC teams utilized the digital Kobo tool, interviews, photographic documentation and GIS mapping of spatial data for all projects and programs.
Preliminary results show some progress and some discrepancies between reported progress and actual on-site status of various projects. Despite these hurdles, M&E teams were able to also gather vital feedbacks and success stories.
The Ministry is in the process of compiling these data into a final report that will provide the government with evidence needed to improve future planning and resource allocation.
MNPDC Permanent Secretary, Mr Brian Lenga, said this exercise will help strengthen oversight of implementation, facilitate better performance, improve accountability and improve delivery of all government development projects and programs.
