Residents of Vura 1 Heights in East Honiara are raising concerns over the lack of rubbish collection by the Honiara City Council (HCC).
Community members claimed the last time a contractor collected waste within the area was towards the end of last year.
Since then, garbage has continued to pile up, creating an unhealthy environment for families living in the community.
The situation is reportedly being made worse by stray dogs, which residents say are tearing-up garbage bags and knocking over bins, scattering waste along roadsides and around homes.
One concerned resident is now urging the HCC Waste Management Department to “pull up their socks” and resume regular rubbish collection services in Vura 1 Heights.
They warned that if the matter is not addressed soon, the problem could escalate, posing serious health risks and further affecting the cleanliness of the neighbourhood.
Residents are appealing on authorities to respond urgently before the situation deteriorates further.
HCC last month assured the public that it would resume its rubbish collection for this year soon.
