A Motion of No-Confidence (MONC) has been formally lodged against the Premier of Western Province, setting the stage for a political showdown in the Western Provincial Assembly.
The notice of motion, dated March 5, 2026, was publicly posted at the Western Provincial Government headquarters in Gizo, triggering the mandatory seven-day notice period required under the Assembly’s Standing Orders.
Speaker of the Western Provincial Assembly, Hon. Ramuraka Talasasa, confirmed receipt of the motion and said the legislative process is now underway.
“Yes, I have received the submission for a Motion of No-Confidence in the Premier,” Speaker Talasasa told Solomon Star in an interview.
“A notice is currently displayed on the notice board at the provincial government building.”
The motion was moved by the Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Ward 7 Vonunu, Hon. Rence Sore.
According to the public notice, the motion is based on three main allegations against the Premier.
These include alleged misconduct and misuse of authority, particularly claims of gross misuse or neglect of powers vested in the office.
The notice also cites alleged financial mismanagement involving the misappropriation of public funds, as well as governance failures in addressing key issues affecting Western Province.
The notice was issued in accordance with Standing Order 107 of the Western Provincial Government.
Under the rule requiring seven clear days’ notice, the motion is expected to be tabled and debated during the upcoming March 2026 sitting of the Western Provincial Assembly.
With the notice period now in effect, attention has turned to Gizo as the Premier and his executive prepare to respond to the allegations ahead of the Assembly’s deliberation and vote on the motion.
The Non-Executive Members have claimed 14 members in their camp.
This was Premier’s Veo third attempt of MoNC issued by Non Executive Government side.
