Farmer quietly earns big from kava

Local farmers across the country are continuing to earn significant income from kava farming.
One of the latest success stories is Ms Fautina, a kava farmer from Malaita Province, who recently earned more than $28,000 after selling her kava produce to Kubonitu Holding, a leading kava buyer and exporter in the country.
In a statement, Kubonitu Holding expressed appreciation to Ms Fautina for choosing to sell her produce at the company’s factory.
“Kubonitu Holding would like to thank a farmer from Malaita Province who came to our factory to sell her kava,” the company said.
“Her hard work and investment in kava farming have truly paid off.”
The company said Ms Fautina received more than $28,000 from the sale of two bags of harvested kava, highlighting the growing value of the crop for rural farmers.
“It is good to see her happy with what she earned from her produce and hard work,” the statement added.
Kubonitu Holding also said it looks forward to continuing to provide reliable services and fair buying prices for farmers supplying kava.
The company recently announced increased kava purchasing prices in Honiara. The current prices are:
- Kava Feo and Temo roots – $380 per kilogram
- Kava Feo and Temo chips – $375 per kilogram
- Kava Tahu roots – $375 per kilogram
- Kava Tahu chips – $370 per kilogram
Kava farmers are encouraged to meet all required quality standards when supplying their produce.
