RSIPF Strengthens Training Capability Through First-of-its Kind IPAM Program
The RSIPF, in partnership with the Solomon Islands Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), has strengthened its training capability through a specialised program delivered this year.
The three-day training brought together 25 RSIPF operational members and focused on building their skills to support the upcoming RSIPF Recruit Course, which is scheduled to begin later this year.
IPAM, the training arm of the Solomon Islands Government, is responsible for building capacity across the public service.
This is the first time IPAM has designed and delivered a program specifically for RSIPF officers.
Supervising Assistant Commissioner James Teilo described the training as a “first of its kind” and said it marks the beginning of stronger collaboration between RSIPF and IPAM.

“This marks new relationships, and I am hopeful for more in the future,” he said.
The training covered three key areas: Engaging Adult Learners, Facilitation Skills, and Presentation Skills. All participants received official IPAM certificates, which are recognised beyond the RSIPF.
The program was developed earlier this year following discussions between AFP and IPAM, after it was identified that RSIPF plans to increase its recruit intake. This created a need to strengthen the organisation’s Learning and Development (L&D) capability.

The training was delivered under the leadership of RSIPF Supervising Director of Learning and Development Amos Mebunir.
At the end of the program, certificates were presented by RSIPF Supervising Assistant Commissioner James Teilo, IPAM Director Solomon Manea, and IPAM Facilitator Bill Hana.
In his keynote address, Director Manea commended the RSIPF for its forward planning and investment in its people.

“The RSIPF Executive are showing they are investing in the future of their police force. By training their Learning and Development members, they are preparing them to train future officers,” he said.
The initiative also reflects the support of AFP in helping the RSIPF to build a sustainable and sovereign police force in Solomon Islands.
RSIPF members who completed the training are now ready to apply their skills when the recruit course begins later this year.
