The Malaita Provincial Council of Women successfully held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Auki on Thursday.
The meeting brought together leaders from established ward councils of women, as well as representatives from affiliated groups across the province.
The AGM is an annual event that gathers women leaders and members from ward councils and other affiliated groups to discuss key issues affecting women at the community level.
President of the Malaita Provincial Council of Women, Rebecca Awa explained the purpose of the AGM is to reflect on the organisation’s progress over the past year, particularly in 2024.
She said the gathering provides an important platform for women leaders to share experiences, identify challenges, and work together on solutions to improve their communities.
“With women coming together, they are able to discuss issues openly, reflect on their work, and support each other in identifying ways to improve health and strengthen their efforts,” Ms Awa said.
She added that most of the council’s work is implemented at the community level, where women leaders focus on addressing local needs and challenges.
Ms Awa emphasised that the AGM also serves as a safe space for members to openly discuss the issues affecting their communities and explore practical solutions together.
A key highlight of this year’s AGM was the progress made by several groups in formalising their status.
She revealed that three ward councils of women have successfully registered as legal entities with the Company Haus.
