The President of the Malaita Province Council of Women, Rebecca Awa, says one of the key priorities of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is to update members on the organisation’s six-year strategic plan.
She made this statement in an interview with this paper at the AGM meeting on Thursday.
Ms Awa said the AGM provide an opportunity for members to review the plan by assessing achievements to date and identifying areas that require improvement.
“This is one of the main reflections during the meeting,” she said.
She added that members also discuss and submit motions, including those related to membership affiliation and ward annual general meetings.
“In terms of governance, we also look at the organisation’s financial agenda,” Ms Awa explained.
“We have been working to strengthen our financial management systems, including developing a clear chart of accounts.”
Ms Awa said, the AGM also focus on strengthening existing systems and identifying ways to improve the organisation’s overall operations.
“We need to come together at this AGM to strengthen these areas and discuss how we can work more effectively,” she said.
She noted that while ward councils have been established, some are not functioning effectively.
“One of the challenges we have identified is that although ward councils are in place, some are not able to carry out their responsibilities,” she said.
Ms Awa added that there is also confusion among some leaders about their roles.
“In some cases, those in leadership positions do not fully understand the roles they are expected to perform,” she said.
