The tropical low [37U] with a central pressure of 991 hectopascals was located wester of Western Province in the Solomon Sea is intensifying.
That’s according to a special weather bulletin number 7 issued by the Solomon Islands Meteorological Services at 7:30pm Saturday 4th April.
The special weather advises is still current for all provinces.
“At 5pm this evening, a tropical low [37U] with a central pressure of 991 hectopascals was located near 9.1 degrees latitude South and 155.1 degrees longtitude East.
“This is located approximately 128 nautical miles [238km] west of Western Province in the Solomon Sea and Intensifying,” the advisory said.
Western Province expects gale force winds of 34 to 47 knots.
While for the Choiseul and Isabel Provinces communities expect winds up to 33 knots.
During this time seas will become rough with moderate swells [2.5 to 3.5 metres] and potential coastal flooding.
For the remaining provinces, they expect strong winds of 20 to 25 knots with moderate to rough seas and moderate [2.5metre] swells.
Widespread heavy rain and and thunderstorms are expected over all provinces, the advisory said.
Heavy rain can also lead to flooding and landslides.
Sea travelers are urged to consider safety when attempting to travel given the strong wind and high swells.
Solomon Islands Meteorological Services will provide further update after midnight, Saturday.
The weather office has warned villagers and residents in the provinces of Choiseul, Western and Isabel to take all precautionary measures.
Already communities in the Western province have experienced strong winds, high wells and heavy showers over the past days as a result of the tropical low.
