AUKI — The Catholic Diocese of Auki marked Easter Sunday with joy and celebration as hundreds of faithful gathered at St. Augustine Cathedral to commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Delivering his Easter homily, Bishop Jacob Aba called on worshippers to reflect deeply on the meaning of the Resurrection, posing a thought-provoking question: “Have you truly experienced and seen that Christ is risen?”
Bishop Aba shared his personal conviction, affirming that he has encountered the Risen Lord not only through faith, but also through the lived experience of the Christian community. He highlighted a powerful sign of transformation witnessed during the Mass—men and women from the Kwaio and Kwara’ae communities sitting together in unity, an image that would have been unimaginable in the past.
He described this unity as a living testimony to the power of the Resurrection, emphasizing that Christ continues to break down barriers, heal divisions, and bring people together in genuine communion.
However, the bishop also issued a gentle but firm challenge to the faithful. While the Resurrection is celebrated, he said, many people remain held back by tribal divisions. He reminded the congregation that Easter is not only about celebration, but about living out the message of unity and transformation.
“We are called to come out of ourselves, to move beyond our own boundaries, and to live the truth of what we profess—one faith, one baptism, one Body in Christ,” he said.
As Christians around the world celebrate Easter, Bishop Aba urged believers to embrace the Resurrection as a present and active reality—one that calls for personal conversion, reconciliation, and love.
The Easter message concluded with a call for the light of the Risen Christ to continue shining in every heart, fostering healing and unity among all people.
“Alleluia, He is truly risen.”
