The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) operations centres in Choiseul and Western Provinces, along with the Provincial Disaster Committees (PDCs), were activated in response to the impacts of cyclone Maila affecting the western region.
This activation is part of a coordinated effort to support the Provincial Emergency Operation Centres (PEOC) in responding to the current situation, particularly in Choiseul and Western Province.
Police officers are working closely with relevant authorities and emergency services through communication channels to ensure the safety and well-being of affected communities, as travel to impacted areas is currently not possible due to the cyclone.
The RSIPF strongly urges all residents in affected and at-risk areas to take immediate precautionary measures.
People are advised to move to higher ground and relocate to safer locations as necessary to avoid flooding, landslides, and other hazards associated with severe weather conditions.
Members of the public are also encouraged to:
- Stay informed through official weather updates and advisories
- Follow instructions issued by authorities and emergency services
- Avoid unnecessary traveling by outboard motors or vessels during this period
- Assist vulnerable members of the community, including children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities
- Drive safely
Provincial Police Commanders (PPCs) for Western and Choiseul Provinces have issued a directive to all officers of the RSIPF serving within the province to be prepared to assist teams and sectors in carrying out assessments and emergency response operations as required.
For residents in Choiseul Province, please report any emergencies by contacting the Taro police on phone 63199/63100.
