The Archbishop of the Church of Melanesia, the Most Reverend Leonard Dawea, has urged Anglican parishioners to remain calm, uphold peace, and respect law and order as the nation awaits the Court of Appeal decision regarding the current political impasse.
The message was delivered during his closing remarks to formally conclude the St George Kidron Valley Church celebrations to mark the St George Day last Sunday.
The program was attended by parishioners from different communities under the Tuvaruhu Parish.
Addressing those present, Archbishop Dawea reminded parishioners that the country is awaiting the Court of Appeal decision, expected tomorrow Friday, 1 May 2026, concerning the political dispute between the GNUT Government and the new coalition group.
He emphasized that whatever decision the court delivers must be respected.
“Whatever decision the court hands down, we must all respect it,” Archbishop Dawea said.
The Archbishop directed a special message to young parishioners, noting that whenever disorder or unrest occurs in Honiara, young people—particularly those from communities on the outskirts of Honiara—are often blamed.
“We want to turn that kind of thinking around,” he said. “Let us show through our actions that we are peaceloving and responsible citizens.”
Archbishop Dawea called on parishioners to allow the government and the justice system to continue with due process and to accept the court’s decision peacefully, regardless of the outcome.
He concluded by encouraging all parishioners to remain prayerful and united during this sensitive time.
“As Godfearing citizens, let us continue to uphold our country in prayer as it faces this political impasse and commit ourselves to peace, unity, and respect for the rule of law,” he said.
