A MAN who was drunk and acted disorderly in front of a Pub at China Town in Central Honiara has been sentenced to one month in prison.
Samuel Iro received the sentence after pleading guilty to one count of Idle and Disorderly Person, contrary to section 175 (d) of the Penal Code.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of two months imprisonment or a fine of $600.
Principal Magistrate Ishmael Kekou handed down the sentence on Wednesday.
The court heard that on 10 October this year, at about 6.30pm, police officers involved in the Zero Tolerance Operation were conducting a mobile patrol in China town when they saw Iro.
He was drunk and walked unsteadily in front of the Happy Inn pub.
Security officers at the pub requested the officers to remove Iro as he had been causing disturbance inside the pub.
When officers approached and invited him to their patrol vehicle, Iro resisted arrest and attempted to fight back.
Police then used minimum force to restrain and escort him to their vehicle before taking him to the Central Police Station, where he was formally arrested and placed in custody.
Iro represented himself in court, while Police Prosecutor Philip Muliungu appeared for the State.
