Dear Editor – On Saturday afternoon, as I was driving along the main road in front of Westpac a bus needed to pull over to the side of the road and I slowed down for this to happen.
When suddenly—-thud! From behind I could feel a bump on against my back tire. Yes, I was rear-ended by a taxi.
To do the right thing, I pulled off to the side, but the silver taxi sped off. I got out to examine the damage, which actually wasn’t much, and a man from the crowd on the sidewalk came over to me mumbling letters and numbers—-the registration licence of the taxi.
Thank you to that very helpful good Samaritan. With this information, I written down, I proceeded to the Central Police Station. I was there for only about five minutes reporting what had happened when a man approached me to say that the taxi driver was there also.
This second good Samaritan had followed him through town, pulled him over and talked him into coming to the police station to sort things out. After a few minutes of apologies everything was OK and we went on our ways.
Actually, my car had been hit last year by a taxi and the damage was very little—this bump had not caused much more damage. However, in both cases, the damage to the taxi was much worse with a crushed hood and dented bumper.
Rav 4s no how to take a beating! After I storied with the taxi driver and the man who had escorted him to the police station, I felt good about not pressing charges or demanding a lot of money. I asked the sergeant at the desk if he knew the good Samaritan and he replied, “He is a policeman.”
Being helped by two total strangers in one day confirms my belief that there are many wonderful people here in the Solomons—-so ready to help and to make things right.
This is why I have lived here for 21 years and hope to be here for a lot longer.
