Addressing the contestants at the event, Deputy Prime Minister, Bradley Tovosia thanked the six contestants for being the light since the start of the event.
“I have trust and confidence in you that will come to be the light going into the future. The commitment in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) inspires to ensure that there is enhancement of women’s skills and capacity, and that women are recognised as active agents of change for sustainable development.
“However, it is about great responsibility, good governance, and bridging the gap between the government and its people,” he said.
He added that the government is addressing the vulnerable population needs through programs and initiatives to empower women in decision-making, education, health care, to address issues of gender-based violence, economic inequality, and health care access.
“This will create a more equitable society for women and girls. This Ms. Solomon Islands patron platform is an excellent avenue whereby voices of vulnerable and humble, yet hard-working mothers, professional women leaders, our young emerging women leaders, and the young girls whose future depends on the decisions made today and ahead.
“When more women are empowered economically, economics grow. When more women are presented in the highest levels of decision-making, the country prospers.
“I put it to you, and your six potentials, to aspire to inspire unity and transformation in a generation and a country,” Tovosia encouraged.
The DPM was also the main sponsor who provided the Special Awards prizes worth $41,000-00.
MSIP Director, Joyce Konofilia congratulated Miss Lauru for winning the crown and the title: Miss SI 2024-2025.
She thanked the other five contestants who also did their best. She also thanked the Judges and Chaperons; the Pacific Crowns Hotel for the venue and support; the sponsors and the DPM for sponsoring the prizes and live streaming; the table buyers at the event; the bands and performers and the media for doing coverage and promotion of the event.
