THE court last Friday sent a man who has been on a warrant of arrest since 2015 into police custody.
John Pepeo voluntarily turned up in court last Friday only to find himself after the mention of his case in custody.
He faces various criminal offences, including a serious traffic case.
Chief Magistrate John Numapo told Pepeo the record of his attendance in court was very bad because he had been evading the country’s justice system.
Public Solicitor’s lawyer Lazarus Waroka, who assisted Pepeo upon his instructions, told the court that Pepeo turned up voluntarily in court.
The accused lived at the Gold Ridge area of central Guadalcanal.
He said he would leave the matter in the court’s hands but sought if the warrant of arrest could be cancelled and the accused can continue to appear in court.
He said this was so the accused can find himself another lawyer since his previous lawyer George Gray was on study leave.
When Pepeo stood up and tried to explain to the court his side, Mr Numapo told him to sit down.
He told Pepeo that he kept on escaping court for so long now and he would not accept his explanation.
“You have been under a warrant of arrest and you just walked right into the court room which is not right,” Mr Numapo said.
He said he will issue a warrant to have Pepeo remanded in custody and adjourned the matter to December 19.
Pepeo was facing charges of causing death by reckless and dangerous driving.
This was in relation to the allegation on 2 August 2011 where the accused collided with a car at the Didao, at around 7pm killing the driver.
Pepeo was also facing other charges of using abusive words, simple larceny and threatening or insulting behaviour.
