A HIGH Court judge yesterday found the man on trial for the rape of a disabled girl at Ranongga, Western Province, guilty of the offence.
Justice Stephen Pallaras delivered his judgment shortly after the closing submission during a high court circuit in Gizo, Western Province.
The short hearing was held on Tuesday and heard evidences from the 21-year-old disabled complainant, her father, and the accused who defended himself in court.
The 46 year-old accused raped the helpless victim twice in her bedroom at her parents’ home at their home village.
The court heard that the victim could not shout for help as the accused covered her mouth with his hand.
The two incidents occurred in 2010 and 2011.
Justice Pallaras will sentence the man at a date yet to be confirmed.
The accused’s name was withheld because he is related to the victim.
Benham Ifuto’o of Public Solicitor’s Office is representing the accused while Crown Prosecutor Andrew Kelesi appeared for the state.
