Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Gabriel Manelusi applauded Choviri community in establishing and aligning its working committee with the national crime prevention strategy.
Manelusi uttered over the weekend when launching the Choviri for Change committee.
“Police is happy and grateful for such initiative taken by the Choviri community in reinforcing upholding of the law at its simplest form from the community level.
“Such is no easy task and that challenge the community have agreed to make change through the tasked committee is significant towards better things to come,” he said.
He said to take a step upfront in advance of police plans on similar approach is a bonus for Choviri community.
“Your community has set a role model path for other communities in Honiara, and is a thing that police has been advocating on trying to bridge the gap between communities for a peaceful coexistence,” said the assistant commissioner.
He urges people living there to work together with their committee to making sure their plans and visions are achieved.
“This is a new chapter to a community with a new label, ‘Choviri for Change’ that must be adhered to by members of the community.
“Responsibility to uphold and keeping that name through the better organized activities for the youths, men, women and children,” said Manelusi.
Director Community Policing, Solomon Sisimia emphasis the change made by Choviri community as importance towards the police national strategic plan.
He said community engagement is one and Choviri community has led the way forward.
“The trend towards better community starts with you and you have braved to take that path from the many past bad pictures.
“The important thing is to help sustain such good community programs engaging the youths through the many useful activities that are of helpful to them,” he said.
Sisimia added the ball is now in your court to take your plans and visions ahead, police will only stand to support wherever needed.
“Congratulations Choviri community for the initiative, you have braved to take the challenge as the leading role model community in Honiara.”
PCC Honiara was also present at the launching of Choviri for change Committee pledges his support and urges for close cooperation with the community.
