Acting Governor General (GG) Patterson J Oti on Thursday received the Letter of Credence from His Excellency Dr Fahad Obaid Mohamed Altafagg Almarashda, accrediting him as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Solomon Islands.
In formally welcoming Ambassador Almarashda, the Acting Governor General conveyed on behalf of His Majesty King Charles III, the Government, and people of Solomon Islands, his warm greetings and best wishes for a successful tenure.
Hon. Oti extended Solomon Islands’ warmest regards to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and to the government and people of the UAE, wishing them continued good health and prosperity.
Reflecting on the relationship between the two nations, the Acting Governor General noted that Solomon Islands and the UAE formally established diplomatic ties on 29 April 2010.
He highlighted the continued growth of the bilateral partnership, underpinned by mutual respect and shared values.
“The opening of our embassy in Abu Dhabi almost a year ago is a testament to the strengthened cooperation between our countries, and our commitment to deepening future collaboration,” he said.
He expressed confidence that under Ambassador Almarashda’s tenure, Solomon Islands and the UAE would work closely to further expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including economic investment, cultural exchange, education, trade, and people-to-people links.
“Once again, I warmly welcome you to Solomon Islands and wish you every success as you begin your tenure,” the Acting Governor General concluded.
