Dear Editor – I am a student resident of Lunga, East of Honiara. I am writing to you in order to raise the issue that are currently facing today especially for students and commuters towards the traffic congestion on the main road Honiara.
Traffic congestion nowadays along the main road has become a serious problem, especially for students and commuters who rely on punctuality.
The slowness of buses and cars due to heavy traffic cause many to arrive late for school or work. My niece Hellen told me that on Wednesday 21st of May, she was late from mathematics class and their teacher punished her for being late.
I urge the gov’t to consider building a direct coastal road like in PNG as an example, or constructing an overpass above the current road.
The overpass should be used only for buses and cars travelling directly from the Central Market to Lunga.
As the situation is not good, these improvements I believe would greatly ease traffic flow and support public movement.
Please I request you to highlight it through your newspaper so that the Gov’t will consider by taking some action to improve traffic congestion in Honiara main road.
Sincerely
Ignasius Sekovana
