The Solomon Islands Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), His Excellency Mr. Cornelius Walegerea, has officially presented his Credentials to His Highness the Deputy Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani, at the Amiri Diwan in Doha.
The presentation formally accredits His Excellency Walegerea as the non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Solomon Islands to the State of Qatar, with residence in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Upon receiving the Letters of Credentials, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani welcomed Ambassador Walegerea and wished him success in his mission.
His Highness expressed Qatar’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations with Solomon Islands to foster further cooperation, development, and growth.
Ambassador Walegerea, in turn, conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the Governor General, His Excellency Sir David Tiva Kapu, the Prime Minister, Hon. Jeremiah Manele, the Government, and people of Solomon Islands to His Highness the Amir, the Deputy Amir, and the people of the State of Qatar.
He reaffirmed Solomon Islands’ commitment to deepening relations with Qatar in areas such as trade and investment, education, development cooperation, technical collaboration, and reciprocal visa arrangements.
Ambassador Walegerea was among eight newly accredited Ambassadors who presented their Credentials to His Highness the Deputy Amir during the ceremony, where they were accorded official reception honours at the Amiri Diwan.
Ahead of the ceremony, on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, Ambassador Walegerea presented copies of his Credentials to His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar. His Excellency Dr. Al Hammadi conveyed best wishes for the Ambassador’s mission and assured the Ministry’s full support to strengthen ties between the two countries.
Solomon Islands and the State of Qatar formally established diplomatic relations in 2011.
