THE Diocese of Central Melanesia (DOCM) in the Anglican Church of Melanesia will consecrate Reverend Othnielson Gamutu as the new assistant bishop for the diocese on Sunday 10th July.
The consecration service will be held at Saint Barnabas Cathedral in Honiara.
A statement from the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) today said as the new assistant bishop Rev. Gamutu will be assisting the Diocesan Bishop of DOCM in the episcopal oversight of the diocese.
The DOCM diocesan bishop is also the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Melanesia the Most Reverend Leonard Dawea.
Fifty-three-year-old Rev. Gamutu was elected to the post during the DOCM special synod sitting held at Transfiguration Church, Vura Parish on 3rd November 2021.
He was then the Private Secretary to the Archbishop of the Church of Melanesia.
Rev. Gamutu is from Samasodu Village in Isabel Province and is married to Mrs Jenny Pilistus Gamutu also from Isabel Province. The couple has four children.
Rev. Gamutu holds a Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies from the Pacific Theological College in Suva, Fiji and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies from Bishop Patteson Theological College, Kohimarama.
He was ordained into the diaconate at Saint Barnabas Provincial Cathedral in January 2007 and later to priesthood in December that same year at Saint Peter’s Church, Samasodu in the Diocese of Isabel.
Archbishop Dawea is calling on the members of the ACOM to uphold Rev. Gamutu and his family in prayer as they prepare to take on this important responsibility in the church.
