The University of the South Pacific Solomon Islands Student Association (USPSISA) launched its two-day Sports Day event at the HCC Multipurpose Indoor and Outdoor Courts in Honiara on Wednesday, 17th September.
Speaking to Star Sports, USPSISA Sports Chair Albert Samani emphasized that the event is not just about competition but about bringing students together.
“The Sports Day is an annual event in our calendar where students participate in indoor sports according to their ethnic groups. Itโs great to see students from different backgrounds coming together,” he said.
The activities included futsal, netball, 3×3 basketball, and mixed volleyball, with students divided into 13 ethnic groups and placed into three pools.
“This event is not only about sports or competition, but also about uniting students as one and giving them a chance to have fun after a challenging academic year,” Samani added.
Despite the rainy weather in Honiara, students turned out in good numbers to enjoy the event.
“Even with the rain, many students came out and competed in their groups. I want to thank them for making the first day a success,” he said.
