ARABALA school in Auki last week organised a speech and a drama week for both primay and secondary students last week.
According to the chair lady of the programe Tracy Sifoni and also an English teacher of Arabala community high school, she said, they organized the event as part of trying to improve the speaking and writing skills of the students.
“Since I was here I found out that students do not understand English very well while I am doing my teaching in the class. Therefore this event was organized.”
Following the one week of activity she can now see the students have improved a lot in their writing and speaking abilities.
“They wrote their own poems and explaining it by themselves in English.”
Miss Sifoni added, students now realize that they have the potentials to learn English but lack the avenue to expose their skills.
She thanked all the students and teachers for their commitment and interests shown during the week.
Chief education officer for Malaita province Andy Siarani acknowledged the staff and students of the school for organising the programme for the students.
He said, English is not a common language in schools and it is important for students to learn the language by engaging in such activities.
“And I appeal to the students of Arabala to speak English as a common language in your school both inside and outside of class,” Mr Siarani revealed.
