Members of the public have called on the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) to increase the number of Police officers at the Auki Police station.
The call was made after Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Solomon Sisimia’s recent revelation that the Auki Headquarters is running short in manpower.
PPC Sisimia stated this when speaking at the consecration of a new Church building at Kwalo village, Central Kwara’ae.
“Up to 60 police officers are currently serving in Malaita and this is very less compared to the past where 90 officers were posted here to do the duty,” Mr Sisimia said
He added that Malaita is the most populated province and to have a small number of officers like this is a serious matter.
Mr Sisimia said that he had sent questions to heads of police concerning this but he is yet to receive any feedback from them.
He said this is not good and most of the time affected their operations.
“We need more officers to do the work for the province.”
PPC Sisimia said that because of this he is now appealing to chiefs and community leaders to help the police to maintain law and order as well as peace in the communities.
But again Malaita needs at least 90 officers to be posted here.
“We have found out that most of the time we fall short to perform due to this issue.”
Meanwhile, Mr Sisimia said he is confident the new Police Commissioner will address this issue as priority.
