Auki police in Malaita have dismissed reports claiming that the missing crew member of Pelican was found at Kiu, West Are’Are in South Malaita.
Malaita Provincial Police Operations Manager, Michael Ramosae, clarified in an interview with the Solomon Star on Tuesday that the report was false and urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation.
“The report that the missing crewman was found in Kiu is not true. We are asking the public to stop spreading false information,” Mr. Ramosae said.
He added that despite the rumours, police are continuing their investigation and are appealing to the public for any information that may help determine what happened.
The missing crewman reportedly fell overboard between Ngella and Malaita last Friday.
A search operation was conducted by police on Friday night and continued into Saturday, but was called off later that evening.
