AUKI police in Malaita have uprooted and seized more than 500 marijuana plants at Fulisango area in the interior of central Kwara’aeyesterday.
The operation was made possible with the help of community leaders who are fighting to get rid of drugs from their community.
Auki police operation manager Fredrick Pado confirmed the seizure on Wednesday.
He said the operation was carried out following a tip-off from the community leaders.
Mr Pado added the raid was followed by a community policing awareness for the community.
“This is an example where community leaders take the leading role in reporting the matter and helping the police to get rid of these plants,” he said.
He added while no arrests were made, police were aware of those who’ve planted them.
“Investigations will continue and those behind these plants will be arrested later,” Mr Pado said.
He said police in Auki are prepared to work together with communities to tackle drug problems as the nation approaches Christmas.
He also called on community leaders to work with police to stop crime during the festive season.
